OAK GROVE’S HEARTTHROB: A SON OF HEARTBREAKER WITH ‘ELECTRICITY’, SCOPE, PRUDENCE AND GOOD MENTALITY
Oak Grove’s Heartthrob has a top performance pedigree. Each breeder knows that the modern showjumping tournaments are asking horses with blood, mentality and ‘electricity’. Heartthrob has all those qualities, plus outstanding showjumping qualities.
Do we still have to introduce his sire, Heartbreaker? A top showjumping progenitor. He was only nine-year-old when he jumped successfully at 1m60 Grand Prix classes. One of the highlights in Heartbreaker’s international showjumping career is undoubtedly the fourth place at the Aachen Grand Prix. His rider, Peter Geerink, once declared: ‘He has the heart of a lion and a canter that could make many taller horses jealous.’ Many descendants of Heartbreaker inherited also other qualities of this brilliant stallion, such as prudence, scope, ‘electricity’ and his very good mentality.
Heartthrob has the very best performance blood not only via his sire, but also via his dam, called Annatou Z, by Artos Z. Via François Mathy, Artos Z moved at young age to the sports stables of the American Mark Leone. Artos Z was one of the most famous Zangersheide showjumpers. He participated at two World Cup finals, in 1994 in ’s-Hertogenbosch and in 1995 in Göteborg. He has sired several international showjumpers, amongst them As Cold As Ice Z and Rotchild du Bosquetiau. Heartthrob’s grandmother, Rinnetou Z, completes the top pedigree. In partnership with Piet Raijmakers, Rinnetou Z caused a furore in the international showjumping world. They participated at Grand Prix classes, World Cup classes, the Gijon European Championship, etcetera.
During the second phase of the 2019 BWP stallion approval Heartthrob was one of the best performers in free jumping. He jumped careful, with quick reflexes. The higher and wider the fences were built, the better he showed his showjumping qualities.
